Fabian Reichle (f. 1991) er þýskur listmaður sem býr og starfar í Amsterdam. Fabian vinnur þvert á miðla og eitt helsta markmið listsköpunar hans er lyfta hugmyndum um endurstillingu. Hann lítur á það sem skyldu sína að vekja fólk til umhugsunar um þann þægilega ramma sem við höfum skapað okkur á jörðinni. Ástandið sem mannkynið stendur frammi fyrir býður ekki upp á að við höllum okkur aftur og slökum á, heldur ættum við að stefna að betri samvist á jörðinni með frið og sjálfbærni að leiðarljósi. Fabian lítur ekki aðeins svo á að hann skjalfesti tíðarandann, heldur dragi í efa venjur og leggi til nýjar leiðir með hljóði, skúlptúr og mynd.
Fabian Reichle (b. 1991) is a transdisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. Making resetting an attractive idea is one of Reichle's biggest aims with his works and he sees it as his duty to make people rethink their comfortable positions on planet earth. The state humankind lives in today should not allow us to lean back, but aspire to figure out what we can do for a better, sustainable and peaceful co-living. He does not only see himself as a possible documenter of our Zeitgeist, but questions habits and suggests alternatives expressing his vision in sound, sculpture and film.
“Song to the Sirens” varð til þegar Fabian Reichle var beðinn um að vera með gjörning á sýningu í Amsterdam. Efni sýningarinnar var list í heimilisrými. Sem úrvinnsla á áhrifum hnattrænnar hlýnunar á hvunndag okkar tíma, skrifaði hann verk sem samanstendur af ljóðum, hljóðbrotum og tilvitnunum. Hann vildi nota rýmið eins og hefðbundna salon-framsetningu og skilgreindi því glugga undir húsþakinu sem ramma fyrir lifandi málverk. Síðan þá hefur hann flutt gjörninga sína í Karlsruhe og Köln og mun nú flytja lifandi gjörning fyrir Plan-B listahátíðina.
Verkið segir sögu manneskju sem er einangruð í skuggalegri sviðsmynd um framtíðina, þar sem stór hluti siðmenningar er útdauður. Hún hefur lokað sig af og vafið sig í hýði, hrædd við sjúkdóma, óvild hins óþekkta og aðrar hættur sem gætu steðjað að. Hún syngur um harm einmanaleikans og leitar í örvæntingu samtals við hinn ytri heim.
Hljóðverkið innheldur túlkanir á “Dido og Aeneas” eftir Henry Purcell ásamt “Song to the Siren” eftir Tim Buckley.
„Song to the Sirens“ is a work that materialized when Fabian Reichle was
commissioned to perform at an exhibition in Amsterdam that presented art in a
domestic space. Dealing with the changes of global warming in the everyday life of our day and age he wrote a piece consisting of poems, music snippets and quotes. Interested in using the space as a traditional salon, he destined the window to the outside rooftop for a frame of a tableau vivant. He has ever since taken his performance to places such as Karlsruhe and Cologne and will perform in a live transmission for Plan B art festival.
The piece tells the story of an isolated human being in an uncanny idea of the future, where a big part of human civilization has gone extinct. It closes itself off, wrapped in a cocoon, afraid of diseases, malevolence of the estranged and other dangers it’s exposed to. It chants laments of loneliness, desperately trying to initiate a dialogue with the surrounding world.
The sound piece contains interpretations of Henry Purcell’s "Dido and Aeneas" and Tim Buckley’s "Song to the Siren".
