Rebecca Digby fæddist í Hammersmith í Bretlandi og ólst upp í Helsingjaborg í Svíþjóð. Hún lauk BA og MA námi í Royal Institute of Art í Stokkhólmi. Í list sinni skoðar hún félagsleg tækifæri stafræns myndmáls og flæði og virkni þess huglæga. Rebecca notar tónlist og húmor sem tæki til að skapa innsetningar og gjörninga innblásna af hrasandi samspili milli stafræns myndmáls og raunverulegs heims. Rebecca Digby was born in Hammersmith, UK, and grew up in Helsingborg, Sweden. She holds an BA and an MA from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Her practice focuses on the social potential of digital imagery and the fluidity of agency and subjectivity. She often uses music and humour as tools to create installations and performances which take inspiration from the stumbling interaction between the digital and the physical world. Nature Clip Object Concert er vídeó innsetning í formi tónleika. Rebecca Digby hefur tekið fjölbreytt hljóðsýni úr náttúrunni og notað form þeirra, hreyfingu og hljóð til að búa til hljóðfæri. Í innsetningunni hittum við fjóra stafræna tónlistarmenn sem flytja lög með þessum hljóðfærum, hver á eftir öðrum. Þeim er varpað í raunstærð og virðast á sama tíma nálægt og fjarri áhorfandanum og hver öðrum. Húmórísk félagsleg spenna er í verkinu á meðan tónlistarmennirnir bíða eftir því að það komi að þeim að flytja sóló sitt og reyna að taka þátt. Náttúran verður þannig bókstaflega að hljóðfæri fyrir huglæga tjáningu mannsins.
The progress of digitization has changed the urban human’s access and relationship to nature. Advanced camera technology enables us to come close and through screens experience phenomena that have never been seen before by mankind. At the same time, the dramatization and the aestheticization of nature lead to a humanization of non-human entities, which means a reflection back to the self rather than an opening up to what is "other". New materialist philosophical movements suggest that our entire cognitive approach towards both nature and materia must be resculpted if we were to have any chance to avoid a climate catastrophe.
Nature Clip Object Concert is a video installation in the form of a concert. Digby has sampled nature clips from various sources and used their shapes, movements and sounds to create musical instruments. In the installation we meet four digital musicians performing songs using these instruments, one after the other. They are projected life-sized, and seem to be at the same time present and distant in relationship to the viewer and each other. Social tension alternate with humour as they wait for their turn, perform their solo and attempt to collaborate. Nature literally becomes an instrument for subjective human expression.
